From hub to hull
Once known as The Mackintosh Hotel, it's been empty and derelict for several years. Before that it was a community hotspot (or so we're told, it's been derelict as long as we can remember). We aim to acquire it and turn it into a Youth and Community hub for the area. We aim to repurpose parts of the building for youth services and events , but we need community support to achieve it!

The owner of the MAC is currently bringing the building into a habitable state with the intension of selling the building to us, The Youth Factor. The estimated completion for this work is set for June 2021. We intend to raise our own funding, through grants and community funding.
We would like to make you aware of a few facts. We are yet to secure funding for such a purchase. In order to get funding for a purchase we would have to have the community on board including its immediate residents. Parking has been identified as troublesome in the area, solutions are being looked at. We believe there are 3 parking spaces within the property. As the building will belong to the community we can be selective when it comes to who lives there. If we cannot source an immediate parking solution we can at least take tenants that do not own vehicles and have signed agreements made to enforce this. However if the council, local housing association or a private buyer were to purchase the building then we cannot promise that they would take the same care. If the building is bought outside of the community then it is outside of our control.
What We Plan To Do
We would like the property to hold 8 flats (it was originally going to hold 16) so that it may generate its own income to support the further development of a youth hub. The hub will contain a single screen cinema, a recycle and repair cafe and other recreational things for the youth, but will not be limited to youth. The facilities we intend to create will be available to the entire public, we're all young at heart anyway!
